Association Activities
SJMS sponsors several activities for physicians, including:
Committees
Audit & Finance Committee
Formulates the annual budget and reviews the financial statements and audit. Make recommendations to the Board of Directors.
Bureau of Medical Economics Committee
Formulates rates and policies of the Physician's Exchange, including its annual budget. Makes recommendations to the BME Board of Directors.
Communications Committee
Responsible for generating articles and editorial content for the Society's quarterly magazine, the San Joaquin Physician .
Community Relations Committee
Works with the media concerning issues related to the practice of medicine. Conducts the valuable Community Internship program.
Constitution & Bylaws Committee
Periodically reviews the Society's constitution and bylaws and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors. The Board, in turn, receives approval from the appropriate governing body.
Decision Medicine Committee
This very popular summer program is designed to encourage qualified high school students to pursue careers in medicine.
Ethics & Patient Relations Committee
Mediates patient complaints and works to resolve physician/ patient disputes.
Legislative Committee
Reviews pending legislation concerning medicine. Interviews local candidates for Congress, State Senate, and State Assembly. Also acts as members of the League for Good Government, the physician's local PAC.
Medical Review & Advisory Committee
Advisory committee to the Norcal Mutual Insurance Company. Reviews pending medical defense cases and decisions.
Membership Committee
Responsible for reviewing credentials of applicants for membership. Recommends ways to attract new members to the Medical Society.
Member Benefits, Services, & Reimbursement
Reviews and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding programs available to members, i.e. physician's exchange, health insurance, life insurance, worker's comp., disability insurance. Reviews problems reported by members including contract provisions, down-coding, denial of payment, etc.
Nominating Committee
Makes nominations of the Society officers, Board of Directors, and related organizations.
Public Health Committee
Deals with such problems as school, rural, and public health and disaster preparedness.
Legislative Action

Key Contacts Network
Physicians who join the key contacts network communicate with their legislators at crucial times during the legislative process. Network members review pending bills and advise CMA of legislators' responsiveness to physicians' concerns.
Legislative Committee Meetings
Local, state and national legislators regularly visit SJMS to speak with members about health-related issues.
Legislative Leadership Day in Sacramento
Members travel with SJMS representatives to CMA's Legislative Leadership Conference to hear about legislative issues affecting health care at the state level and to visit legislators in their offices.
SJMS Alliance
